THE AIRFIX 1:24 SCALE MOSQUITO IS BUZZING CLOSER...

Airfix is continuing to drip-feed information on the upcoming 1:24 Mosquito kit that has the aircraft model builders at SMN waiting with our tongues hanging out.

There will be two kit variations, the fighter-bomber FB VI and the night-fighter NF II. The kit will also include a range of markings, with five decal variations: 


Fighter-bomber FB VI 

No 418 City of Edmonton Squadron, RCAF 

No 143 Squadron, Banff Strike Wing (this squadron’s splendid motto was Caedimus noctu - ‘We slay by night’) 

No 1 Squadron, RAAF, 1945

Night-fighter NF II

According to Airfix, it took more than ten months to design the Mossie, using information from the old Airfix company, the de Havilland Museum at Salisbury Hall, near Hatfield, UK, plus records from the Yorkshire Air Museum in Elvington.

With R&D complete, the production kit should be worth the effort, with an arms-length wingspan of 688 mm (27.08 in) and a length of 545 mm (21.45 in), assembled from 617 parts. We don’t yet have a release date, but it’s more than likely that the 1:24 scale giant will take care of at least a few winter’s nights later this year.
