If you like the world of models and miniatures, then Scale Model News is for you. Guiding lights behind the site include David ‘Judge’ Jefferis and Mat Irvine.
David (above) comes from the world of journalism and publishing, while Mat’s cv includes many years with the BBC Visual Effects Department. Apart from contributing to this site, Mat (below) has put much effort into creating a series of model shows, including HaMeX, Automodellismo, and smallspace, a title derived from his own website name.
There’s another TV legacy too, the connection being Gerry Anderson, of Thunderbirds puppet-series fame. Way back when, David scripted and drew an Anderson-inspired weekly strip called Starcruiser that ran in the pages of ITV’s Look-In magazine - and Airfix produced a kit of the spacecraft star, though the ongoing adventure never made it to the silver screen, as planned. The Starcruiser (above) consisted of several modules that fitted together to form an interstellar survey vehicle. Below, one of a set of drawings that David supplied as poster-size backdrop images for Gerry Anderson's Space City exhibition.
